Biofeedback

If you struggle with stress and stress related symptoms, it may be that you have forgotten what it feels like to be in a relaxed state. Years of chronic stress has conditioned you to recognize a high energy stressed level as normal and this keeps your nervous system on hyper-speed. Over time this leads to muscle tension, fatigue, lowered immune response, disturbed sleep, pain, and many other symptoms of chronic stress.

Biofeedback combines techniques like deep breathing, meditation and visualization to retrain you to recognize a relaxed state and help you learn to voluntarily trigger the nervous system to stay in a relaxed state. The biofeedback equipment does this by detecting small changes in physiological measures such as your skin temperature, heart rate, and respiration, and graphically representing these changes for you on a computer screen as you practice different relaxation techniques. Want to understand this better and how it may help you? Watch the below video.

Benefits of Biofeedback…

helpful for a variety of symptoms and has been used to successfully treat these stress-related or stress-aggravated conditions:

  • Headaches
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Panic attacks
  • Hypertension
  • Chronic pain
  • Insomnia
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Anxiety
  • Asthma
  • PMS
  • Depression

Biofeedback is very popular because the treatment is entirely non-invasive and if you practice the techniques symptom relief can occur in as little as three biofeedback sessions.

Unlike using prescription medication, the biofeedback process relies upon your mindfulness and concentration to overcome chronic stress, pain, or insomnia. Biofeedback is often a recommended source of treatment for those that are unable to take medication, or for those that have not found relief from their condition through medical intervention alone. Biofeedback allows you to take control over your health, manage stress, and overcome your pain without becoming dependent upon an outside source for relief.

What to Expect

During the Biofeedback session, our specialist will connect you to computerized equipment using electrical sensors at different points on your body. These sensors work by monitoring very small changes in your body’s physiology. A biofeedback session usually lasts 45-50 minutes. The length of the individual session and the amount of sessions that you will need depends entirely upon the condition that you are hoping to treat, however many people find significant symptom relief in three to six sessions.

Biofeedback fee is $95 per session. Biofeedback appointments available at Garfield and Vista Medical Offices (Otay Mesa opening soon).
KP members with a referral have a different fee. Members are encouraged to discuss with their primary care physician if their condition warrants a referral.
