MINDFUL MAMAS
Mindfulness Program for New and Expecting Mothers

Motherhood is often overwhelming as you experience sleepless nights, worries about being a good parent, unhelpful advice from everyone and everywhere, adjusting to breastfeeding, dealing with going back to work and childcare and losing opportunities to take care of yourself and connections with others. You can end up feeling alone, depleted, and sometimes hopeless.

These feelings can be hard for others to understand and difficult to communicate to family and friends.

Mindful Mamas is a four-session, virtual program that teaches mindfulness techniques that can help you accept your thoughts and feelings without being overwhelmed by them. You will learn skills that will help you slow down, breathe, and be present to enjoy your pregnancy and children.

The life skills taught and practiced in this program are particularly helpful for dealing with anxiety and depression, both of which are common to pregnant and post-partum women.

MIND OVER CANCER

A cancer diagnosis can be devastating. The treatments and/or fear of relapse can lead to overwhelming feelings of anxiety and stress. These feelings can be hard for others to understand and difficult to communicate to family and friends. The stress, isolation, pain, and insomnia that comes along with cancer can weaken your immune system and leave you with less strength to fight for recovery.

Mind Over Cancer is a program designed to support you through the experience of cancer Whether you are in active treatment or recovery, the four-session program teaches mindfulness techniques that enable you to lessen the effects of worrisome thoughts and strong emotions. The program helps you learn how to be more present to enjoy to things you are grateful for in your life.

You learn these techniques in a supportive setting with others who are dealing with the similar stresses. The ability to share and practice techniques in a safe setting helps relieve feelings of isolation, enhances self-compassion, builds resiliency, and gives you additional tools to cope.  Each cancer survivor may also enroll a support person to attend with them.

Mindfulness interventions for people who have or are recovered from cancer have been shown to improve sleep, reduce pain, lessen fatigue, and improve over-all quality of life.

Biofeedback

If you struggle with stress and stress related symptoms, it may be that you have forgotten what it feels like to be in a relaxed state. Years of chronic stress has conditioned you to recognize a high energy stressed level as normal and this keeps your nervous system on hyper-speed. Over time this leads to muscle tension, fatigue, lowered immune response, disturbed sleep, pain, and many other symptoms of chronic stress.

Biofeedback combines techniques like deep breathing, meditation and visualization to retrain you to recognize a relaxed state and help you learn to voluntarily trigger the nervous system to stay in a relaxed state. The biofeedback equipment does this by detecting small changes in physiological measures such as your skin temperature, heart rate, and respiration, and graphically representing these changes for you on a computer screen as you practice different relaxation techniques.
