Kaiser Permanente offers numerous wellness clslider-sampleasses and programs to KP members as part of their health plan at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Healthy Living.

Unless noted in the description, these programs do not require a fee; however, you need to be a member of Kaiser Permanente to participate.  Click on any of the below topics for San Diego class descriptions or check the below links to view a calendar.

Wellness Coaching by PhoneWellness Coaching by Phone

Kaiser Permanente members may receive motivational coaching over the phone by a licensed health educator for a specific health goal. They have five topics to choose from: Eating Healthy, Being More Active, Losing Weight, Quitting Tobacco, or Being Less Stressed. The coaches assess the member’s readiness and individual goals and then provide motivation and accountability through the mail (regular or e-mail) and every other weekly calls from their coach. There is no time limit on how long it takes for the member to achieve their goal and members may choose to work on as many of the topics, one-at-a-time, as they like. Toddler Nutrition ClassToddler Nutrition Class

Parents, grandparents, or adult care-givers you’re invited to attend a 2-hour, Toddler Nutrition Class. You’ll learn new ways to help the toddlers (ages 1 to 4) in your life eat well and to grow up strong and healthy. Discover how to use your toddler’s natural curiosity and appetite to introduce healthy food options. You will also learn the important role toddler nutrition plays in brain development, growth, and even their health later as an adult. Child needs to be a Kaiser Permanente member. Healthy Lifestyles for Families

In this two-session series for parents and their children, families learn strategies for building healthier families through nutrition and exercise. Topics include understanding your child’s growth chart, parenting tips for getting children to change eating behaviors, healthy meals and snacks, portion size, label reading, and meal preparation. Parents or supporting adults attend the first of the two-hour sessions without the children and in the second session they attend with their children 5 to 12 years of age. No fee. Healthy Lifestyles for TeensHealthy Lifestyles for Teens

This two-session nutrition education series is for 13 to 17 year olds. Parents or a support adult are welcome to attend with the teen, but not required. Each session is two hours and covers basic nutrition for teens, mindful eating, shopping tips, meal preparation ideas and journal exercises. No fee. Freedom from Tobacco

One of the best things you can do for your health is to quit tobacco. Freedom from Tobacco starts with an orientation session where you will receive an overview of medications and resources that are available to help you quit. Then the following six-session program will help you to set a quit date, quit tobacco, and support you to stay quit. You will learn successful, easy techniques for dealing with cravings and temptations in a supportive group environment. Stress Reduction and Relief

Self-awareness is a powerful way to maintain mind-body health. In this one-session class, you will discover how your body, mind, and health are connected and begin to identify the causes of stress in your life. Mind-Body HealthMind-Body Health

Medical science has made amazing discoveries about how our emotions and thoughts affect our health. In this six-session program you will become aware of the causes of stress in your life and identify the thought patterns and emotions that act like triggers for added stress. You will learn proven techniques for training your body to relax and let go of stress.

Depression/Insight and Understanding

This eight-session program covers in depth the relationship between thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and physical symptoms and the way they can build on each other, keeping people caught in the cycle of depression. Information on treatment options, support groups, medications, and proven recovery strategies are discussed. Recovery from InsomniaLive Well Sleep Well – Recovery from Insomnia

Have a Healthy Pregnancy

Pregnancy Wellness

In this one-session class you will discuss the many normal changes that you’re likely to experience during the last trimester of pregnancy. Learn what you can do to prevent a pre-term delivery, and gain tips for how to stay comfortable. You will also receive information about support resources for post-delivery to help you and your newborn stay healthy. Preparing for Childbirth

Few events are more exciting than the birth of your baby. Learn the skills and strategies that can help make your childbirth experience a positive one. This four-session program teaches you what you need to do to prepare for birthing with breathing and relaxation techniques. These classes should be taken during the last three months of pregnancy. Breast Feeding With Success

Breast Feeding With SuccessYour baby’s health begins with good nutrition and studies have shown that breastfeeding offers a number of health benefits to you and your baby. Infant Care

Wouldn’t it be nice if babies came with instruction manuals? This class just might be the next best thing. You’ll learn how to prepare for parenthood with useful tips on breastfeeding, bathing, diapering, car seat safety, protecting against Sudden Infant Death, Child/Infant CPR, and what to do about poisons. Infant CPR – A Life-Saving Skill

Whether you’re a parent, babysitter, or family member, knowing what to do during an emergency can help you to save a life. This class will teach you cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for infants to one-year. You will also learn choking and safety guidelines and procedure. Children 12 years or older may attend with an accompanying adult. Healthier Living: Managing Ongoing ConditionsManaging Ongoing Conditions

Take control of your ongoing health condition on a daily basis with this six-session workshop series.
