The Positive Choice Integrative Wellness Center hosts FREE seminars and workshops throughout the year. The seminars are open to everyone. You are welcome to participate even if you are not a member of the Kaiser Permanente health plan. All seminars are held at the Positive Choice Integrative Wellness Center unless another location is listed in the description. TREATING HEART DISEASE WITH A PLANT-BASED DIET
Friday, May 19th from 6 to 7:00 pm
Dr. Raymond Berdugo will speak on Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn’s whole-food, plant-based diet and how Dr. Esselstyn used this diet to help 12 terminally ill people recover completely from heart disease. Dr. Berdugo will cover the benefits of a whole-foods, plant-based diet in the treatment of heart disease.
OVERCOME FOOD ADDICTION

When one is too many and 1000 is never enough, you know you have a food addiction. Similar to addictions to drugs or alcohol, the drive for food can be powerful. Overeating can lead to unwanted pounds, health problems, distorted body image, an unhealthy relationship with food, and low self-esteem. There are strategies that can help you break the cycle and gain a sense of peace and control around food. Heather Erickson, MA, LMFT, will cover the addiction model and offer insight on how to begin the process of recovery.
INCREASE FLEXIBILITY, AVOID INJURIES AND OVER-TRAINING

Is pain preventing you from exercising the way you want? Chronic pain, such as in the foot, back, knee, and shoulder, can often be the result of a lack of flexibility in key muscles. Anneliese Piazza, MS, will share her expertise on how to target tight muscles and tendons that may be contributing to current injuries and allow you to increase exercise performance. This will be a hands on work shop where you’ll get to try out some of the best myofascial release tools as well go through a stretching routine.

What you may not have thought about is that movement is very much like a vitamin…you need to move daily to maintain health. If you took a healthy person and put them in a hospital bed for just four days, over seventeen bodily functions would go off balance. Kay Rethwisch, MS, RD, CDE, will talk about the movement vitamin. Why you need it, what happens if you don’t move, and easy ways to build it into your life…even when you don’t have the time.

Coach Lizzy Kemp Salvato, MS, a National Race Walking team member, 1992 Olympic Trials race walking qualifier, and exercise physiologist, will speak on how to revamp your current walking routine into a race walking routine that will help you burn more calories and develop greater body and cardiovascular strength. Maintaining a strong, flexible body is one of the best things we can do as we age, because it can help to prevent falls and injury. The gentle art of yoga helps build both strength and flexibility. Norma Solomon, BS has nearly over decades of yoga experience. She will help you develop strength, add flexibility, and give you exercises you can do at home. Come dressed to participate and bring your own yoga mat. Enrollment is limited for this seminar due to space availability. RECOVERY FROM ADRENAL EXHAUSTION
